The peanut was introduced to China by Portuguese traders in the 17th century . Portuguese and Spanish traders introduced a number of crops to China during Ming dynasty, including sweet potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, pumpkins, and tobacco. American missionaries introduced the Virginia type in the middle of the 19th century.
Nowadays, there are more than 100 types of peanut planted in North China, including Henan, Jilin, Liaoning and Shandong province. Some of them are so famous and popular, such as the Virginia type, Hsuji type and Red skin. Among them,‘Hsuji’is a best seller, which is the ‘Spanish’ type with a round shape and pink color.
